The role of the PTA is to provide a basis of cooperation between parents, teachers and the Board of Governors as well as welcoming and assisting parents into the school and introducing them to the DESS community. Many of the events which emerge as a result of the work of this cooperative group are community based, high profile and fun!

The DESS PTA is a voluntary committee made up of parents and teachers and led by a Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary. The Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher attend meetings to help to coordinate the work of the committee.

There is no set number of members, so anybody is welcome to join. We have committee meetings approximately once a month to discuss relevant issues and plan for fundraising and social events

The school benefits greatly from the good work of the PTA. Most recently the school kitchen, which the children use for Food Technology has been lavishly refurbished. If the resulting morsels which find their way out of the kitchen are anything to go by, it is only a matter of time before DESS appears in the Michelin good food guide!

Numerous events are organised by the PTA which include:

• fair ( our main event)
• book club
• refreshment stalls at sporting events
• hot-dog days


• table-top sales


• coffee mornings


• pot-luck breakfasts

As Doha is such a dynamic place there is always room for more members to join the PTA. Of course there are degrees of commitment and often parents and teachers offer support for particular occasions which fits in with other aspects of their professional and social lives.
