    “The School Council gives us

     an opportunity to help other

children to speak for themselves”  - Max

    What is the School Council?

The School Council started in December 2007. It is made up of two representatives from each Year group from Y1 to Y6. We meet with Miss Brooks every two weeks after school and occasionally at break times to talk about a wide range of things to do with the school. The School Council gives us the opportunity to make our voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.

How to give us your great ideas?

There is a School Council Suggestion box, under our notice board. You can put your ideas in here. Don’t forget to write your name and class on them.

    What are we up to?

Check out our new School Council web page and our notice board (outside 5C) to be kept up to date about what we are doing.

    Jan-March 2008

We have been working really hard re-wording the school’s Mission and Values so that everyone can understand what they mean.

    School Council Organisation

    Composition :

Two children from each year stage, from years 1-6, will represent the Year Group. One teacher to facilitate and oversee proceedings.

    Nominations/Voting :

Individual classes vote for two class candidates (a boy and a girl)
The 8 children then go through to final selection (initially during first set-up year) by Year Class Teachers This will happen twice a year so that each class in the year stage is represented at the School Council.

    Meetings :

Teacher facilitated meetings to take place every second Sunday, 1.15pm-2.15pm.
Additional student meetings during break/snack time in the library.

    Communications :

A display board to allow Councillors to display information and for children to keep up to date with proceedings and developments.
Two suggestion boxes in convenient places (i.e. for easy access for K.S. 1/Reception & K.S. 2), to be put out on the Tuesday before the meeting and collected on the Thursday before the Sunday meeting, so that issues may be added to the agenda. This process will start shortly after the school council has finished rewriting their own aims and has completed other set-up duties.
Whole school feedback to be given in Assembly. Councillors' Badges- to be awarded to Councillors and worn as a method of identification. Councillors to provide feedback and gather class consensus during snack from their respective year stage
