Year 7 and 8

This academic year marks a historic new chapter for Doha English Speaking School as we opened our doors to Year 7 students. These lucky students pave the way as the first to use our new building and state of the art facilities: a new Science Laboratory, Art Room and Music Studios, as well as music technology equipment and a Common Room with canteen facilities. Our specialist team of trained Secondary teachers provide rigour and challenge in the curriculum ensuring that students are thoroughly prepared for their next steps after DESS.

Heather Rinaldi joins us as Assistant Headteacher and Key Stage Leader of Years 6, 7 and 8. Heather's background as Deputy Head at a leading international school in Singapore ensures that we benefit from her experience of (I)GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate.

I am delighted to be part of this historic moment in DESS’ history as Year 7 opens for the first time.  We are very proud of the strong community feel that continues to permeate through every aspect of Year 7 life at DESS ensuring that learning and pastoral care are personalised to each child.”   Heather Rinaldi, Assistant Headteacher.

Leadership opportunities for Year 7 and 8 students abound as they have the chance to undertake roles such as Head Boy and Head Girl, prefects and House Captains, reserved at other schools as the privilege for only the Year 11, 12 or 13 students.

Following the opening of Year 7 this academic year, we will continue the expansion of our senior school by opening Year 8 in September 2022, to become the only not-for-profit Preparatory School in Qatar.  As a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS); a UK kitemark of excellence in education, DESS focuses on providing the best possible pastoral support and academic education for children aged 3-13.
